Putting Down Black Ops 4

Written by: Justin Reeves

The hours that @MrsRedneckofTek and I have put into Black Ops 4 is unbelievable. During the Blackout beta, I thought that it was going to be the next big thing in the Battle Royale genre, but I was wrong and interest in Blackout faded away like a thief in the night.

However, multiplayer was as solid as ever in my opinion, and boy did we put some major time into it, and had a blast. As time went on though, we didn’t get any new maps, or content, because we simply didn’t have the money to spend on the Black Ops Pass, given what we felt its worth was.

We had no problem playing the standard release maps, but aside from having to miss out on new content (and yes I’m aware that’s my choice by not purchasing the Black Ops Pass for $49.99 (plus applicable taxes of course, duhhhhh.) it seemed as if every time time I logged in, the game became more and more convoluted with microtransaction related shit. I mean, I mean I’m not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed but still, the whole system seemed too ridiculous to have to wade through.

Its sad when a company like Activision takes a beloved IP like Call of Duty and sets it full speed on a road to disaster, with the only excuse being pure, biblical greed. I hope every day that the sumbitches don’t destroy Blizzard’s IP’s, I would be fucking heartbroken.

As of right now, Black Ops 4 isn’t even installed on my Xbox. I just don’t have the energy to deal with it anymore, and I’m ready for new content, but I just can’t bring myself to spend $49.99 on the Black Ops pass, when for only 10 more dollars I can have Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which will undoubtedly be my next purchase.

I don’t know what the future holds for Call of Duty, but I fear that it isn’t good. These companies like Activision and EA run in with this dope boy attitude of “Get the mothafuckin cash now and deal with the bullshit later”, and that mindset doesn’t work long-term in any situation. I think back to the beginning of series like Call of Duty, Diablo, Starcraft, and all of the other properties which I fear are in serious danger from the greed of these powerhouse publishers.

Right now, I’m putting Black Ops 4 to the side. I mean, I’m not some hater, I will play it again, I mean I paid 60 fucking dollars for it. It’s just so far down on my list right now. I mean, I do like zombies as well but there’s just so much I’d rather play right now. I’m really putting some time into Apex Legends, I’m going through all of the Borderlands titles to get geared up for the release of the third entry into the series in September.

I can’t leave this article without saying that the new Alcatraz map did drop for Blackout which is going free to play for a short time, which I think may actually spark up some more interest in the mode.
